Book Description. Female presence and involvement on boards improves firm performance, transforms corporate governance and leads to the transition towards more responsible business. Corporate boards are essential bodies for governance and management . Corporate governance has been a dominant policy issue in developed market economies for more than a decade, lately particularly in Continental Europe and Japan. In the transition economies it took some time for corporate governance to climb the ladder of policy priorities, but since the mid-‘90s it has been one of the most hotly contested issues. Corporate governance issues are especially important in transition economies, since these countries do not have the long-established financial institution infrastructure to deal with corporate governance issues. Before there was no need to discuss corporate governance issues, because all enterprises were owned by the state.
